About Melissa Turka
Three Phrases that Describe my Dance Background:
- I grew up dancing at Encore Dance Center (best place on earth) and furthered my dance education at DeSales University where I received my BA in Dance and I minored in Business and Psychology!
- While at DeSales University I was a part of the dance team for 4 years, and I was the president for 2 of those years! I also taught for Conservatory of Dance (a student run youth dance program), and I was the student director of this program for 2 years. I helped curate the 48-hour screen dance challenge my senior year, this is a challenge where TV/Film Majors and Dance Majors join forces to compete to make the best dance film in only 48 hours!
- I am a freelance artist as well as a teacher! I have performed professionally in Philadelphia, New York City, Lancaster, Connecticut and The Lehigh Valley. I love to teach, but performing on stage is one of my favorite things to do!
My Role at Encore Dance Center:
Instructor, Choreographer for Encore Performance Company, and Barre Instructor
Dance Classes I Teach:
I started a non-profit professional dance company with fellow colleague and best friend, Emily Kline! Our company, emme dance collective, is a dream come true and we are so excited for this journey together!
Favorite Encore Recital:
Fame (2012). It was my senior year recital and I had the best time dancing with my closest friends one last time!
When I'm not at Encore:
I am dancing with my company, emme dance collective, or I am spending time with my family, friends and boyfriend, Bobby!
